What exactly is counseling?
Counseling is a safe place where you can talk to someone and work out any problems, stresses, or issues you might be having. Because everyone experiences hard times that can affect their lives or the lives of those around them as they grow up, DCYHC counselors are there to help you to feel comfortable, safe and understood. In a counseling session you can talk about whatever you need to talk about, however you want to talk about it, and our counselors are here to support you.

Is the counseling confidential?
Yes. You are protected by the law, and counselors will not share anything you talk about with others** (not even your parents) unless you tell the counselors that it’s okay. Also, if you are 12 years or older, you don’t need a parent’s permission to get counseling.
**While it is that case that counselors won’t tell anybody anything you tell them without your permission, the law says that sometimes there are some things that they need to report like child abuse, neglect or if you’re thinking about suicide.
