Hormonal Birth Control
Here at DCYHC there are six different types of hormonal birth control methods to choose from:
- The Pill
- The Patch
- The NuvaRing
- The “Shot” (Depo-Provera)
- Implanon
- The IUD
For the Pill, Patch, NuvaRing, Shot and Implanon you do not need a Pelvic Exam.
All these methods are free with Family PACT insurance.

The Pill
How You Use It: You swallow 1 pill every day at the same time.

The Patch (Ortho-Evra)
How You Use It: You stick a patch on a fleshy area (butt, back, arm, etc.) every week.

The NuvaRing
How You Use It: You insert a plastic ring into your vagina and leave it there for 3 weeks.

The Shot (Depo-Provera)
How You Use It: You come into DCYHC and get a shot every 3 months.

Implanon
How You Use It: A small plastic device is inserted into the arm and lasts for up to 3 years.

IUD (Intra Uterine Device)
How You Use It: A T-shaped device is put in the uterus. The Hormonal IUD (Mirena) lasts up to 5 years. There is also a non-hormonal IUD (Paragard) that lasts up to 10 years.
